SCHEDULE

Our virtual school day is Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (with an hour break for lunch) as their remote academic day. Attendance is required for all synchronous classes and attendance will be taken. Students should be able to complete all academic obligations in this time frame.

The WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT ROUTINE:

ROUTINES TO CREATE OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL DAY:

A Morning Routine

In a remote class situation, it would be tempting to roll out of bed and wander into a Zoom advisory. Even though our students are not leaving the house, they should build a routine that includes everything they would normally do to get ready for their day at school (e.g. showering, getting dressed, and eating a healthy breakfast). We know creating space for a new routine in April is hard, which is one reason why each day, we will have a late start, that begins at 9 a.m.

A Household Lunch Hour

Our students will have lunch every day from 12:30-1:30 p.m.. If you can align your own work schedule to this time, it is a great time to get together for a family mid-day check in. Whether you can gather or not, consider making this a “tech free” time. Our students will be on screens more than usual, so tech-free times become even more important!

An Exercise Routine

Many of us participate in an exercise rhythm that has likely been disrupted by social distancing: sports, yoga class, or working out at a local gym. Figure out a new routine to stay active: a 30 minute walk, an online workout video, or push-ups in your backyard! Create a new plan and stick with it through this season of life.

Time to Connect with Friends

Set up a time to connect with friends remotely outside of the school day. While for some of you, gaming and social media provides an opportunity for this, when you can't see one another face-to-face this will quickly get old. Consider intentionally connecting virtually in other ways than playing video games and using social media. Have a virtual board game night, a virtual cooking night where you all make the same dish at home, or set up a video conference and watch a movie together.

An Established Bedtime

Even though initially it may feel like more a snow day where everyone is hunkered down, sleep is still critical to being an effective student. Plan to go to bed eight-nine hours before you begin your morning routine.
